REGENSBURG

Docked this afternoon in Regensburg, after traveling through many, many locks. We have traveled through 16 locks between Bamburg and Kelheim, which we went through this morning. Tom and I were lucky enough to be sitting in the rocking chairs at the bow when we went through a few of the locks and it was amazing. We also passed under a few very low bridges, which took our breath away when we realized how close we were to the underside of the bridge. We went thru one of the biggest locks just after dinner last night, and it was awesome. Of course, we didn't have our cameras handy, as it was right after dinner, and somehow, the dinner wine interfered with our judgement, but it was incredible to see. Hopefully our friends, who were better prepared, will share their photos.
At lunch, we enjoyed a great German Farmers platter, with pork, bratwurst, sauerkraut and the original Budweiser beer, from The Czech Republic....all delicious!
Regensburg is a beautiful town, one of Germany's best preserved medieval cities, right on the Danube river, and boasts the oldest restaurant in Germany. Of course, Tom and I had to stop for some bratwurst and beer. We visited St. Peter's Cathedral with its gothic spires and amazing stained glass windows. I have never seen more stained glass in one church, just gorgeous with the sun shining in. When we got back to the ship around 6pm, we changed for dinner, and headed up to the top deck. There we enjoyed the evening sun, With an incredible view, and just so unbelievable, to be sitting on a ship, in the sun, looking at the gorgeous views from the Danube, just so magical.......stay tuned
