CYCLING THE WETLANDS

Our first day on the ship has been a great day, and we haven't even left the dock yet. We will be underway in about 30 minutes, at 11:30pm.
We boarded the ship at 11am, and once we were settled into our room, we headed out on a bike ride thru the wetlands of Holland. We took a ferry across the water and cycled thru some beautifully quaint villages. They were exactly as I had pictures the countryside would be and then more beautiful. Rows of old brick houses, lace curtains in the windows, terra cotta pots on the brick sidewalks and steps, filled with so many flowers that we grow at home, geraniums, pansies, tulips, lupines. Saw a lot of lilac trees and wisteria, clematis and other flowering vines. Most of the villages we went thru were very old, and the houses are protected similar to our heritage houses at home.
We stopped in One small village And climbed the church tower to get a great view of the farmlands and wetlands.
Our first dinner onboard was spectacular and I will be having a stern talk with myself tomorrow about trying to pace myself with the desserts.
After dinner, about a dozen of us went for a stroll through the red light district. needless to say it was a very interesting walk.
Looking forward to our first port of call tomorrow, Kinderdijk and its windmills......stay tuned
